Low-cost airlines usually have fairly strict rules regarding the dimensions and weight of both carry-on and checked baggage. In addition, these rules are often complicated and subject to frequent changes, so it's not surprising to see disgruntled passengers at check-in counters and at airplane exits, often having to pay (sometimes astronomically high amounts) for excess baggage they didn't even know they had. This often occurs during the summer vacation season when even less experienced air travelers are on the move.
Free carry-on baggage with easyJet
Each passenger can bring one piece of carry-on baggage with maximum dimensions of 45 x 36 x 20 cm on board an easyJet plane for free. The maximum allowed weight for carry-on baggage is 15 kg. It's important to emphasize that only one piece of carry-on baggage is allowed. Therefore, if you have a small backpack of the appropriate size, you cannot have an additional women's purse, a laptop bag, or similar items. In this case, you must place the smaller bag inside the backpack.
The allowed dimensions of 45 x 36 x 20 cm are quite small because this piece of carry-on baggage must be compact enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Therefore, small pieces of carry-on baggage are not placed in the overhead bins but under the seat in front of you. The overhead bins are reserved for larger pieces of carry-on baggage, but these cannot be taken on an easyJet flight for free.
