The Blue Mosque - Istambul

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque stands in the heart of the old part of Istanbul. It is considered the most beautiful example of Ottoman sacred architecture and, along with Hagia Sophia, is the most visited landmark in the largest Turkish city. As its name suggests, it was commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I, who ruled in the early 17th century. The nickname "Blue Mosque" comes from the blue mosaics that adorn its interior.
